In 2016 Portland native Jeffrey Martin gave up life as a high-school teacher to pursue music. Four albums on, his latest release Thank God We Left the Garden (2023), recorded in Martin’s garden shed is, according to Uncut, his “most mesmerising, brilliant album” yet. Channelling the lost country-rock of Bob Carpenter and the philosophical fatalism of Townes Van Zandt, Martin’s deep, introspective and insightful folk Americana is a sight to behold.
