CHARLOTTE ADIGÉRY & BOLIS PUPUL

Ghent-based duo Charlotte Adigéry and long-term musical partner Bolis Pupul broke out with their 2019 Zandoli EP – which Pitchfork described as “striking, playful electro-pop with a sly sense of humour” – and haven’t stopped ever since. Exploring themes such as cultural appropriation, racism, and social media vanity they are ripping up the dancefloor, rulebook. 2022’s debut Topical Dancer expands their worldview further outwards, with songs like “Hey” questioning the shallowness of ‘wokeness’ and searchings for a utopia of “equality, harmony and integrity”. These are undoubtedly hard-hitting subjects, but mischief is a key aspect of Charlotte and Bolis’s musical alchemy. Their sense of humour and unparalleled chemistry plus a mix of deadpan vocals, buoyant beats and abstract melodies creates a pretty surreal and unforgettable show.
