Listed in the National Public Radio’s “Top 100 young composers”, jazz conservatoire graduate Arooj Aftab made history in 2022 as the first Pakistani singer to win a Grammy, for her single “Mohabbat” in the Best Global Performance category. Finding inspiration in Urdu poetry and her home city of Lahore, Aftab’s music is a genre-bending fusion of ancient Sufi traditions with folk, jazz and minimalism. It’s awe-inspiring.
