When Andy Shauf played here in 2015 we knew we were watching an artist like no other: a storyteller who creates worlds with his deft and disarming observations. It was brilliant – the Canadian’s songs densely layered with characters and a rich emotional depth.
We loved his last solo album, 2016’s The Party (which earned a spot on the Polaris Music Prize 2016 shortlist and a place in our hearts) and his new one, The Neon Skyline, is his most direct and emotionally-rich record yet. Each song is full of flowing lyrical phrases and charming moments – like the melancholy joy of “Try Again” – and each song is pitch-perfect. Welcome back Andy!
