The Sophs – DEATH IN THE FAMILY
The Sophs, the six piece Rough Trade signees from LA, just released a new single called “DEATH IN THE FAMILY”, a song about lead singer Ethan Ramon’s intrusive thoughts involving deaths of family members. He explains: “When I was a kid, anytime I didn’t want to go to class, or pissed off a teacher, or just felt cornered by something small, I’d start wishing I’d fall sick, or that something tragic would happen. I figured sympathy was the only thing strong enough to dissolve guilt. That misfortune could cancel out my mistakes…It wasn’t that I wanted to suffer. I just wanted to be seen as someone worth forgiving. And the cleanest path to that, I figured, was grief. Preferably someone else’s. Preferably on my behalf.” Get your hands on a limited edition 7″ of the single here
Gina Birch of the Raincoats, who was recently announced as a new addition to the lineup this year (alongside Truman Sinclair), released her second solo studio album last week via Third Man Records
Ducks Ltd. released a cover of the Camera Obscura track “Lloyd, I’m Ready To Be Heartbroken” featuring Gep Repasky from Lunar Vacation
Scott Lavene released new single “A Bus In July”, lifted from the forthcoming album, Cars, Buses, Bedsits and Shops, which comes out August 22nd
Dan Snaith of Caribou released the latest single by his side project Daphni this week. It’s called “Clap Your Hands” and is his first solo release under the moniker in three years (we’re also still loving “Unidos”, his recent collab with Sofia Kourtesis – her new EP Volver is due August 1st)
