The Bear Tavern [Real Ale]

A couple years ago we launched the Real Ale Bar. A full ale festival within the festival. All the ales were chosen from local breweries, covering Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire. We are very lucky that some of the UK’s best ale is brewed on the festival doorstep!

This is just a selection of the beers we have on for the weekend. Best to just ask at the bar and check the boards.

Hopback Brewery

Summer Lighting (ABV 5%)

A trendsetter in the brewing industry; the original Summer ale brewed all year round. An extremely pleasant bitter, straw coloured beer with a terrific fresh, hoppy aroma. This, coupled with an intense bitterness, leads to an excellent long, dry finish. Probably the beer to receive the most awards in Britain!

Golden Best (ABV 3.5%)

Golden, with the sort of light clean tasty quality which makes an ideal session ale. Tasted to destruction by our brewers, Golden Best has a hoppy aroma and is packed full of the very best East Kent Goldings, leading to a good dry finish.

Entire Stout (ABV 4.5%)

A rich dark stout with a strong roasted malt flavour and a long, smooth aftertaste. Suitable for vegans.

Downton Brewery

 

Honey Blonde (ABV 4.3%)

A golden straw coloured bitter. A superb blend of spicy and floral hops, added to the smooth sweetness imparted by Flaked Maize and Mexican honey, make this a beer that never hangs around for long! Champion Beer at the Alton Beer Festival 2008.

Route 66 (ABV 4.8%)

A red premium bitter brewed with 100% North American Hops. Summit, Chinook, Liberty, Mount Hood and Willamette hops provide an orange peel bitterness with a spicy, floral aroma.

Dark Delight (ABV 5.5%)

A complex, dark brown ale combining subtle coffee and chocolate flavours with a rich, hoppy aroma. Dark roasted berry and caramel characters sink deep into fantastic roasted bitter flavours which linger long into the finish.

Gyle 59 Brewery

Freedom Hiker (ABV 3.7%)

Created in honour of the Tolpuddle Pilgrimage. The beer is golden brown with a rich amber malt flavour combining with New World hops to put a modern twist on an old recipe.

Happy Daze (ABV 4.1%)

A classic and refreshing wheat beer. A hit of banana and spice from the yeast and subtle addition of coriander make put this beer in a class of its own. Won a Gold Award in the SIBA South West Regional Speciality Beer Competition in 2014.

IPA (ABV 5.3%)

This is an IPA with a long bitter finish. Made with only Maris Otter malt the strong grapefruit, orange and floral notes from Cascade, Amarillo and Chinook hops are allowed to shine through.

Stonehenge Ales

Heel Stone (ABV 4.3%)

A crisp clean, refreshing bitter, deep amber in colour, well balanced with a fruity blackcurrant nose. Bitter flavour.

Eye Opener (ABV 4.5%)

Eye-Opener is a beautiful golden, dry and smooth premium bitter with a hint of toffee, which compliments the citrusy and spicy flavours. A touch of magic and a hint of mystery is left on the palate. 

Five Rings (ABV 4.5%)

Is a deep golden, premium bitter brewed with malt from the ancient Great British landscape and added Chinook hops grown on the tribal land in Oregon where the Chinook tribe once lived.

Ringwood Brewery

Best (ABV 3.8%)

The perfect supping beer. Ringwood’s first brew and still a favourite tipple. Tempting hop aroma with fruit notes. Good malt feel in the mouth, dry, tangy fruit finish. 

Forty Niner (ABV 4.9%)

Golden in colour and brewed to 4.9%, Ringwood has been brewing this classic beer since 1978. Light, fresh hop bouquet. Rounded malt in the mouth with strong hop balance, deep bittersweet finish. 

True Glory (ABV 4.5%)

An all-time favourite and back by popular demand, this glorious amber ale with a smooth malty finish delivers true glory.

Long Dog Brewery

Golden Poacher (ABV 3.9%)

At 3.9% abv, Golden Poacher is the perfect thirst quencher. Gallena and Green Bullet hops all the way through, this beer has bags of aroma with crisp citrus coming through in spades. Magnificently hoppy, you’ll find yourself swirling and sniffing this beer all the way to the last drop.

Brindle (ABV 4.2%)

Brindle bitter is a traditional, no nonsense, English, best bitter. It uses Challenger and Goldings hops to create a marvellous hoppiness which is balanced by a malty, chocolatey sweetness. At 4.2% abv and with an assertive, yet not overpowering, bitterness this is a fantastic all rounder.

Kismet (ABV 4.5%)

4.5% abv Golden Ale with Chinook and Pacific Jade hops giving a lovely bitterness to quench a Summer thirst. Citrus and spicy noted from the hop balance the sweetness from the malts.

Vibrant Forest Brewery

Nova Foresta (ABV 3.8%)

We don’t like the word ‘ordinary’ except when it is part of the word ‘extraordinary’. This may be our standard best bitter but we want it to be a vibrant marker, pointing the way to full-flavoured ales. Nova Foresta is a refreshing amber bitter packed with a generous amount of spicy and fruity English hops to balance the delicious maltiness. Take a walk on the vibrant forest path for a new taste experience.

Flying Saucer (ABV 4.3%)

The alien invasion began with sudden taste bud explosions of citrusy orange and grapefruit. Golden fluids cascaded down into the gaping mouths of the bewildered inhabitants below, their senses assaulted by a new flavour experience. Having abducted their curious victims, hop bombs exploded as the aliens departed leaving the survivors surrounded by a lingering bitterness and a curious desire for more.

Zuur (ABV 3.5%)

Our very popular sour beer. We alternate the recipe on every batch with seasonal fruits and American hops. This most recent batch has Mosaic hops which gives a creamy tropical flavour. Very refreshing and tart!

Eight Arch Brewing Co.

Parabolic (ABV 4.5%)

A fresh and aromatic pale ale brewed with U.S. hops including Cascade – ‘Beer of the Festival’ – CAMRA Dorchester Beer 2016.

Corbel (ABV 5.5%)

A highly hopped India Pale Ale brewed with massive amounts of Mosaic hops from the U.S. giving a huge hit of tropical fruit aromas and flavours. SIBA South West – Gold Winner 2016 – strong bitter and pales.

Quarterjack (ABV 4.8%)

Our porter brewed with seven different malts resulting in a full bodied porter with roasted aromas of coffee and chocolate.

Flower Pots Brewery

Perridge Pale (ABV 3.6%)

A light straw colour, brewed with barley and wheat malts. A very refreshing beer with a good smack of citrus hops and a perfect clean finish. Hampshire Beer Of The Year 2015.

Flowerpots Bitter (ABV 3.8%)

A dry, hoppy traditional bitter with a light bronze colour. Excellent on its own and particularly good with food. London and South East England Bitter of The Year 201X, Champion Beer of Britain Bronze Champion (Bitter Category) 2014.

Goodens Gold (ABV 4.8%)

A classic beer in the modern ‘Golden Ale’ style, with a superb gold colour and fullness in the mouth, which come from the use of lightly caramelised malts. Packed full of powerful but fruity North American hops giving good levels of bitterness and flavour to perfectly balance the gravity. Hampshire Beer Of The Year 2013, 2014.
