Flat Worms self-titled debut record was one of the best albums of last year. Signed to Californian Castle Face Records (co-run by John Dwyer of Oh Sees ), and containing past and present members of Oh Sees, Ty Segall Band and Dream Boys, their psych-rock credentials were already confirmed. But it couldn’t prepare you for the style, panache and rage of the record. Just listen to the closing track, and first release, “Red Hot Sand”, a lesson in post-punk intensity. The whole album is packed full of savage, feedback-heavy riffs. Live that energy and intensity is magnified tenfold – their sound a refreshingly brutal smack to the face.
