Grammy award nominated husband-and-wife duo Amadou Bagakado and Mariam Doumbia fuse together pop, blues and the very essence of Mali to create vivid, dazzling, trail blazing music that has captured the attention of the world.
If you’ve not yet fallen for them, then just listen to “Sabali” on their Welcome To Mali record or “Coulibaly” on Dimanche à Bamako – both capture the dazzling euphoric sound born from the chemistry between them.
Folila, from 2012, featured guest appearances by Theophilus London, TV on the Radio, Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, as well as fellow countryman and ngoni master Bassekou Kouyate. It was brilliant, bright and vivid.
They’ve toured and recorded with a dizzying list of artists, from Manu Chao to David Gilmour, Damon Albarn to Bassekou Kouyaté. They’ve shared a stage with Coldplay and U2. They’ve performed at a Nobel Peace Prize concert in honour of Barack Obama, and played at the opening ceremonies of the last two World Cups.
We can’t believe we’re going to be added to that list.
